OBJECTIVES

The Objectives of RESGEST are to enhance the status and role of women, both as agents and beneficiaries in the development of S&T and their application to social and economic development and promote studies on their differential impact on women and men in Southeast Asia and the Pacific region, in line with program of transformation action recommended by UNCSTD (1995).

Areas for Transformative Action

The seven key areas for transformative action are:

• Gender equity in science and technology education.
• Removing obstacles to women in scientific and technological careers.
• Making science responsive to the needs of society: the gender dimension.
• Making the science and technology decision-making process more "gender-aware".
• Relating better with "local knowledge systems".
• Addressing ethical issues in science and technology: the gender dimension.
• Improving the collection of gender disaggregated data for policy makers.
