The Regional Secretariat for Gender Equity in Science and Technology (RESGEST) for Southeast Asia and the Pacific is a Regional Secretariat of the Gender Advisory Board of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (GAB-UNCSTD).

ImageRESGEST commends its activities on 1 March 2000 and used to be named as the Regional Secretariat for Gender, Science and Technology. From 2000 until 2002, RESGEST was jointly organized and managed by the UNESCO office Jakarta and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) and resided at LIPI Jakarta. Since 1 January 2003, UNESCO office Jakarta, roll the secretariat along with other UNESCO activity: Asia Pacific on Gender Equity in Science and Technology (APGEST) into a single program and re-titled as RESGESTRegional Secretariat for Gender Equity in Science and Technology. Since then RESGEST office resides at UNESCO office on Jalan Galuh (II) No. 5, Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan 12110, Indonesia.

RESGEST activities are affiliate with but separate from APGEST. RESGEST concerns on ‘science by whom’ while APGEST concerns on ‘science for whom’. These two programs are doing different but complementary things and will need to call on different (but complementary) network and policy advocacy supports. Broadly, the division of labor between APGEST and RESGEST is that APGEST will focus on GST and poverty reduction/economic empowerment, and interventions to benefit the women of poor rural communities. Whereas RESGEST will look at the broader picture of women’s participation in S&T for national sustainable development at all levels.
